Frequently Asked Questions - the stuff that causes problems
Can I get a Free Trial and how does it work? Our four week Free Trial is available to anyone who has not previously subscribed to our services, either through an earlier free trial or paid subscription. The Free Trial is designed to allow you to try out our service and decide whether you would like a paid subscription. Four weeks of Ottawa is about 2,000 jobs and for Toronto, about 4,000 jobs. We figure at that point, you'll know whether you like the service or not. Obviously, if you've had a previous Free Trial or subscription, you are already familiar with our great service. To start your Free Trial, just go to our Try a Free Trial page and complete the Free Trial form.
OK, I signed up but I am not getting the job emails. What's wrong? In almost all these cases, we are sending you the job emails but your internet service provider (Bell, Rogers, Yahoo, Outlook/Hotmail, corporate mail server, etc) or possibly your own spam software is flagging our job emails as spam and diverting them to a spam/junk mail folder. At this point, you have two options.
OPTION 1: In the case of your ISP, check your spam folder which you will need to find. In a number of cases, it is online and not the one on your computer. If you discover our emails are in that folder, the first step is to add us to your Address Book or contact list. This usually helps ensure our emails get through. You can also find out how you would identify our emails as safe/not spam. Sometimes there is a simple link/button to click for the email. This ensures that the ISP always sends our job emails to your Inbox. Your ISP will provide instructions on how to do this. In the case of Bell and Rogers, you can talk to real tech support people. If it is spam software that comes with your email client/software, then simply follow the instructions to identify PNJ as not spam.
OPTION 2: We strongly recommend that you set up and use a free email service like Gmail, Yahoo, etc for your PNJ and any other public subscription services. We prefer Gmail because it provides an incredibly straightforward and simple spam management solution. You can also automatically forward emails sent to this Gmail account to your personal email account. In this way, you never share your personal email account to subscription services. Also, if your ISP spam filters continue to block the emails, you will always be able to find them on your Gmail account.
Why do your emails end up in my Spam/Junk folder? Very simply, the job emails are full of hyperlinks which often triggers spam filters. Our new job emails also contain a lot of odd and weird hyperlinks that some filters might interpret as phishing attempts.
I was getting the job email and they stopped. What's up with that? It is always due to one of two reasons. The easy one is that your free trial or subscription ended and you missed the warning emails we had been sending you. Stuff happens. The reminder emails often show up in a quick check of your past PNJ emails and they contain explanations and links on how to renew your subscription.
In the other case, your ISP has decided that we are sending you spam and is now diverting our emails to your spam folder. Refer to our explanation above to fix the spam filtering problem.
The links in the email don't work. How do I fix that? Our email is in your spam or junk folder. In that case, your email software or ISP disables the links to keep you safe. You need to move our job email to your Inbox. The links will be enabled once you do that.
